I USED TO ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY August 02, 2010
Jackie Chan didn’t care that his early movies glorified violence because they made him so much money.

The 56-year-old Chinese actor made a name for himself in the 1970s and 1980s by starring in a string of ultra-violent martial arts movies, including Drunken Master, Dragon Lord, Dragon Fist and Armour of God. He loved making his fight scenes as brutal as possible, and never thought fans would try to copy him.

"When I was young I didn't care about education, just money and box office,” he admitted in an interview with BBC News. “People just copied all the bad things I was doing in movies.

“I taught people how to drink and how to fight. I'm not a god - I do bad things. All those years I was learning.”

In the early 1990s, Jackie realised that people were taking his films seriously, and aspiring to be violent just like his characters. He set about correcting his image, and now says he will only appear in films that send a positive message to children.

"Right now the box office is not important - I want to do something meaningful - like The Karate Kid,” he said.

The Karate Kid also stars Will Smith’s son Jaden, and is due for release later this month.

"ultra violent"??? as compared to what? Teletubbies??? Shocked Seriously, compare any of the movies mentioned to films by Bruce Willis, Stallone, Chow Yun Fat.....and what, they're going to say "Armour of God" is comparable to those???

apparently the writer hasn't seen any of these movies

ETA. I quite believe the part about how Jackie mostly made films for money but this article totally misses the creative part of making the movies.
